LA County Department of Arts & Culture Communications & Outreach Intern

The Communications & Outreach Intern collaborates with the leadership team to provide administrative and logistical support for Levitt LA during the summer concert season in MacArthur Park. The Intern will play a key role in strengthening Levitt LA’s public presence and establishing relationships to support community engagement, promoting talent, audience development, and organizational sustainability. Attendance is required at all summer concerts which are scheduled for Friday/Saturday evenings, and Sunday late afternoons (June 18- September 4). Administrative/office days will be Wednesdays/Thursdays. There will be an opportunity to work approximately 30-40 hours a week with up to 100 hours being offered remotely. There is an opportunity to create a flexible work schedule after the concert season.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must currently be enrolled as an undergraduate at a community college/university

  • Takes initiative and self-motivated within a team environment
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail, with ability to multi-task and stay focused
  • Passion for Levitt LA’s mission of making live music accessible to all
  • Bilingual in English, Spanish, and/or Korean preferred
  • Have the ability to run the occasional errand, pick up computer equipment at office, etc, either with personal vehicle or public transportation
  • Social media management and video editing skills a plus

Schedule

We would follow this general schedule and there is some flexibility:

Wed- admin/outreach day 10am-6pm
Thursday- admin/outreach day 10am-6pm
Friday- admin/concert 3pm-11pm (onsite at MacArthur Park)
Saturday- admin/concert 3pm-11pm (onsite at MacArthur Park)
Sunday- admin/concert 3pm-11pm (onsite at MacArthur Park)

Levitt LA seeks someone who can commit to 30-40 hours a week, June 1- Sept 15 during the concerts and can be onsite for all 30 performances. 8 hours days with breaks. We have the 4th of July weekend off and the 1st weekend of August. Up to 400 hours at $16.04/hour + mileage reimbursements if you use your own car. We do not have an office and we are all currently working from home. We do meet up for in person meetings sometimes and I would ask for your support in attending events on our behalf or conducting outreach in the community.

Production Runner

The Production Runner at Levitt Pavilion Los Angeles (Levitt LA) is responsible for assisting the Director of Operations during the concerts at Levitt Pavilion in MacArthur Park. They will run various ‘errands’ associated with the production and operations as well as assist audience members and serve as a friendly representative of Levitt LA.

This position will report to the Director of Operations. This is a part-time, non-exempt position. The use of the Production Runner’s car would be preferable, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Run errands such as support with meals, laundry, grocery shopping, package delivery, equipment rentals, coffee runs, etc.
  • Coordinate large take-out orders with local restaurants, purchasing, retrieving and distributing to touring personnel
  • Assist production staff with general production-related duties
  • Assist Production staff with set and break down before and after each concert
  • Assist sponsorship activations setup
  • Other duties as needed
  • Confidentiality is very critical to the role
  • Be in charge of the information booth and inform people of upcoming shows
  • Answer audience questions
  • Be an additional set of eyes and ears for the Venue Manager
  • Handle sales of water and merchandise, handling cash and credit card payments
  • Make a welcoming environment for the audience
  • If a personal car will be used, valid driver's license with a good driving record and insurance with liability are required
  • An operational cell phone is required
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Levitt Pavilion Los Angeles adheres to strict Covid-19 Safety Guidelines by governments. Each Levitt LA staff member must wear a mask in any indoor setting, and follow the regulations set forth by the management. Masks are provided by Levitt LA

General Requirements

  • Be respectful and courteous to the audience, performers, and staff
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends
  • Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule based on each night’s performance
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

  • June 18 ~ September 4, 2022 (No concerts on July 1,2,3 & Aug 5,6,7)
  • Friday and Saturday: 2pm - 11pm
  • Sunday: 11am - 8pm

Compensation

  • $18 an hour
  • One meal per day
  • Mileage will be covered at 56 cents per mile if a personal car is used.

 


Director of Communications & Marketing (Bilingual English & Spanish)

Full-Time, Exempt, Reports to Executive Director

Position Summary

The Levitt LA Director of Communications & Marketing (Director) leads all communications with Levitt LA’s audience and supporters. The Director plays a key role in strengthening Levitt LA’s presence in the Los Angeles music industry, surrounding communities, and audience development.

With guidance from the Executive Director, and in collaboration with staff, the Director shapes Levitt LA’s marketing and promotion strategies, and implements a broad spectrum of Levitt LA’s communications to advance the organization’s mission, including elevating Levitt LA’s brand, individual donor and sponsorship communications, and social media.

As a member of the Levitt LA team, the Director provides on-site support throughout the summer concert season and is expected to attend every concert of the series, Thursday through Sunday evenings, June through early September. In addition, the Director engages with audiences in a variety of off-season community outreach events with the Director of Community Engagement & Partnerships and ten pop-up concerts throughout the city, locations and partners TBD.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develops a vision and voice for Levitt LA’s brand with passion while tending to the daily administrative details that are critical to organizational success
  • Creates and tracks an annual marketing plan and budget, allocating funds to advertising, printing, labor, etc.
  • Maintains tracking of Levitt LA’s communication efforts and the effectiveness of various marketing strategies; provide regular reports to organizational leadership
  • Creates bi-lingual (Spanish and English) communications such as eblasts, social media posts, fundraising letters, event invitations, sponsorship decks, project descriptions, etc.
  • Designs basic invitations, postcards, eblasts, and other marketing materials
  • Translates and proofs all copy in English and Spanish
  • Implements day-to-day social media activation and eblasts to advance Levitt LA’s communication strategy and shapes the organization’s voice
  • Creates an advertisement strategy and allocates advertisement funds per media outlets
  • Maintains the Levitt LA website and oversees future website redesign
  • Supervises interns and consultants with guidance and support from the Levitt LA Executive Director
  • Works with a graphic design contractor to create season brochure, advertisements, and other materials
  • Oversees PR contractor to execute press releases and coordinates press outreach
  • Provides support for the Levitt LA Board meetings, including preparing meeting handouts and resource materials
  • Provides support to the Executive Director by creating and designing communication and appreciation for Levitt LA’s individual donors and Board members
  • Acts as a Levitt LA brand ambassador and attends community outreach events with Director of Community Relations & Partnerships
  • As schedule permits all Levitt LA team members may participate in community meetings, conferences, events and activities year-round that elevate visibility for Levitt LA and help advance its mission, including fundraising, volunteer recruitment, and community engagement.
  • Retain comprehensive knowledge of trends, emerging platforms, and new technologies in the digital marketing space
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Skills & Experience

  • Exceptional writing skills in English and Spanish, fastidious with details and exceptional proof-reading skills
  • 5+ Years’ experience in communications strategy for the performing arts and/or music industry highly preferred, or similar field and a demonstrated ability to create compelling communications across multiple platforms
  • Content strategy, content creation and social media management for the performing arts, music industry or similar field
  • Experience with Digital/Radio/TV Buy Ads
  • Experience with Digital Marketing Analysis in live events including Direct to Consumer platforms, Customer Journey Analysis, A/B Testing, CX Customer Experience, PR measurements, Facebook Business Manager, and Google Analytics, preferred but not required
  • Competent with donor management systems and CRM software, MailChimp, and Microsoft Office
  • Basic graphic design skills to create simple invitations, social media posts, eblasts, and ads, Adobe Suite preferred
  • Advanced knowledge and demonstrated success of utilizing social media platforms and their communities and how to optimize performance across activations
  • Excellent time management skills to plan and execute several projects simultaneously with the ability to meet deadlines and manage designers, interns, and staff effectively
  • Thrives in a high-performing, small nonprofit organization, with an understanding of its opportunities and limitations
  • Personable, energetic, passionate, and knowledgeable about music, arts, culture, and Los Angeles
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with donors, Board members, community partners, audience members, and all Levitt LA stakeholders
  • Ability to navigate cultural complexities and a willingness to incorporate a variety of perspectives from Levitt LA’s diverse stakeholders, artists, and partners
  • Eagerness to partake in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion practices, training and implementation
  • Experience and connections with influencers and brand ambassadors that would be in alignment with Levitt LA mission/vision and strategies, preferred but not required
  • Established relationships with media outlets and press members, preferred but not required
  • Established relationships with key members of the philanthropic community and appropriate community organizations, preferred but not required
  • Able to lift 30 lbs
  • Must have reliable automobile for local travel
  • The health and safety of Levitt LA staff is paramount and COVID-19 safety measures are in place and must be adhered to. All staff are required to be triple vaccinated.

Compensation

This is an exempt position. The salary is $75,000 - $85,000 based on experience. Medical insurance, 401K and a robust vacation and PTO package included. Mileage and cell phone reimbursement offered.

Location

Levitt Pavilion is located in MacArthur Park with offices in the Echo Park area. Due to COVID-19 precautions, Director will be required to work from home with occasional meetings in the office, and will be expected to be on site for all live in-person concerts, pop-up concerts, and community engagement events.

Sponsorship Consultant

Independent Contractor, Reports to the Executive Director

Levitt Pavilion Los Angeles (Levitt LA) seeks a consultant to procure corporate sponsorship in the form of cash and product donations in exchange for advertising and recognition within our 2022 season of music programming and beyond. The Sponsorship Consultant will play a key role in forming partnerships with brands and businesses to create long term relationships. Levitt LA’s 2022 music programming includes 30 in person and live-stream music concerts, and ten  in person pop-up concerts to be performed in and around the Westlake area. Expected digital audience reach is 500,000+. Opportunities for brand recognition include a diverse array of digital advertising, social media outreach through Levitt LA’s channels, product demonstration and VIP engagements.

Sponsorship Consultant Scope of Work

  • Pitch and negotiate sponsorship opportunities, as approved by Levitt LA, to companies, brands, business and like entities to sponsor concerts and programming activities for the 2021 summer concert series
  • Prepare weekly e-mail updates to Levitt LA documenting brands reached, amount requested, and benefits discussed. In addition, consultant will participate in bi-weekly calls with the executive director and/or the Levitt LA fundraising team and as needed.
  • Prepare each sponsorship agreement, which shall be signed by the organization.
  • Provide detailed listing of sponsorship deliverables and activation including sponsor expectations, timelines, and expenses.
  • Work directly with sponsors and Levitt LA to ensure a successful partnership for all parties.
